Someone once said, “The strength and character of the church is in its men. Men have the responsibility of leadership in the church as well as in the home. Their character is everything. It’s the all important thing. Where a church’s men are strong, the whole church will be strong. Where a church’s men are weak, the whole church will be weak.”
However, there is an acute shortage of strong, quality and godly men, men of character and integrity, willing and capable of providing the necessary godly leadership in the home, the church and in the general public life.
In fact, when you look at the church for instance, you will also find that in almost every congregation, men are outnumbered by women and are less involved in church life and ministry in comparison to women. When it comes to evangelism and discipleship, you will agree that it is so much harder to evangelize and disciple men than it is to evangelize and disciple women.
Why is that? What kind of men will it take to change the situation? What can and should the church be doing to raise godly men capable of providing godly leadership in the home, in the church and in general public life?
These are questions that must be answered and it is my prayer that every congregation and its leaders will seriously and prayerfully consider how they can begin truly discipling men in their congregations. The North American church in particular needs to address this matter with all seriousness and with a great sense of urgency.
Joy to the World Ministries (JTW) seeks to come alongside churches in North America as well their leaders in this noble endeavour through the Men for God Conferences. The first Men for God Conference was organized last year and I am thankful to the LORD that it was a successful conference. We had over 200 men in attendance and they all went home challenged, inspired and encouraged to grow into the kind of men that the LORD wants them to be.
The LORD is looking for strong, brave and godly men who will step forward, willingly lay their lives down in order to stand in the gap for sake of their families, their churches and nations.
Oh men of God, arise and stand in the gap. Your families need you to do that – learn from Job’s example in Job 1:5, “…Early in the morning, he (Job) would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking,”Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.” Your churches need you and your nations need you, the Lord needs you. He laments in Ezekiel 22:30, “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.”
This year, JTW has organized another 2-day conference for men in a quest to continue challenging men to begin thinking seriously and biblically about their role as God’s men in our generation. Details for this conference are available on our website: Men for God Conference. The conference will be held at Cloverdale Baptist Church from June 24-25, 2016. We have great speakers coming to challenge us with the Word of God including the famous reformed blogger, Tim Challies. Please pray for us. I encourage all the men especially church leaders who are able to attend, to register. Registration fee is only $30 and that covers the entire conference as well as refreshments and meals. There will also be some free resources available for you to take home. Looking forward to seeing you there, Lord willing.
