Killing Sin Before It Kills You

bekillingsin (1)The Christian life is WAR!  If you don’t know that or don’t agree with that, then you are not a Christian.  Every Christian knows from God’s Word and from personal experience that there is a war going on!  It is a war over your soul.  The flesh against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh (Galatians 5:17).  This is why so many times in the Bible we are called to “fight.”  To be a Christian is to be perpetually committed to, and engaged in a life-time battle against sin and the devil.  Thank God, we don’t have to fight alone or in our own strength.  The battle is the LORD’s (1 Samuel 17:47).  It is the LORD who works in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

Choosing Hymns: A Little Humor to Spice Your Day

I thought this was a very humorous story and thought of sharing it with everyone.  Here we go:

One Sunday, a pastor told his congregation that the church needed some extra money. He asked the people to consider donating a little more than usual and that whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns.

After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had placed a $1,000 bill in one of the plates. He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation. He said he’d like to personally thank the person who placed the money in the plate.

A very quiet, elderly, saintly looking lady all the way in the back shyly raised her hand. The pastor asked her to come to the front. Slowly she made her way to the front. The pastor told her how wonderful her gift was and in thanks asked her to pick out three hymns.

Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three most handsome men in the building and said, “I’ll take him and him and him!”

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
